David Cameron has agreed to meet four US senators who have been calling for an inquiry into how BP lobbied the British government for a prisoner transfer agreement ahead of the release of the Lockerbie bomber.
The British embassy had initially said Cameron’s two-day schedule in Washington was too crowded to meet the senators, but on arriving in the US capital last night the prime minister rapidly changed his mind, saying he wished to show respect to the families of the Lockerbie victims.
I’m not sure why DC has decided to meet these senators
Whether you agree with the decision or not it is absolutely no business of the American senate??
Megrahi was a prisoner in Scotland. It is their decision, and their decision alone, whether to release somebody from prison or not.
They will have to answer to their electorate when the time comes if they made the wrong decision.
IMHO the justice system in the USA is crap so I think we need no lectures from them on how to run things over here.
David Cameron should, politely, tell the senators to butt out when he meets them.
I would prefer him not to bother turning up to the meeting.
